Why do children get lead poisoning and what should parents know?

According to the National Center for Disease Control, the most common cause of lead poisoning in children is paint used for household purposes.

In the information spread, we read that there is no safe dose of lead, therefore, it is important for both children and adults to be fully protected from it.

Before we talk about the problem of the presence of lead-containing paints on the market, let's get to know what problems this substance causes in children. These include: impaired concentration, low level in intelligence assessment tests, hyperactivity, difficulties in reading, coordination difficulties, behavioral disorders; low performance, delays in growth and development.

Lead poisoning is accompanied by clinical symptoms, the knowledge of which is necessary to start treatment in time. Lead damages the nervous system over time, and removing it from the body in time protects the child from the severe consequences listed above. Symptoms of poisoning are: abdominal pain, anemia, constipation, headache and loss of appetite. The NCDC warns that lead poisoning is especially dangerous for children under the age of six because their central nervous systems are still developing.

There are international recommendations on how to protect yourself from lead, which is dangerous for both children and pregnant women. Recommendations include maintaining good hygiene, avoiding walking on smog-polluted streets, eating food rich in iron, calcium, and protein, and avoiding household paints that contain lead. The National Center for Disease Control has directly indicated in its recommendations that, in addition to avoiding the mentioned paints, they should also join the campaign to ban the sale of paints contaminated with the mentioned substance.

Nevertheless, there are still dangerous paints on the market. However, at the same time, some manufacturers have decided to offer environmentally friendly and 100% lead-free paints to consumers and become trustworthy with this mark. Among them is "Chromodomi", which is actively used by people who are aware of the danger of lead in Georgia.

As the construction and repair materials company Citadeli explains, customers who visit their showroom to buy paints choose Chromodomi precisely because of safety, especially when it comes to the living environment of a child.

It is also important to use safe paints in preschools and schools, where children spend most of their time.

As Citadeli explains, in order for children to be fully protected from lead, it is important to use environmentally friendly paints on the exterior of the building, which is also included in the Chromodomi range. In addition, we should not forget to check the safety of thermal insulation paints.

Chromodomi varnishes and paints are manufactured in Greece, have CE certificate and are intended for the EU market.

Unfortunately, most of the paints on the market today are not labeled as lead-free or do contain lead, which leads the consumer to make a mistake and end up spending a lot of money, buying poor-quality paint, and putting themselves and their family members at risk. The first thing we recommend to customers who come to our showroom is to make it a priority to purchase safe construction and repair materials, in which our competent consultants provide reliable recommendations," explained Citadeli.

As more of us become aware of the dangers of child paint on the market, there will be less demand for it and the rate of lead poisoning will decrease.
