Inexpensive and easy ways to renovate the living room
When we are at home, we spend most of our time in the living room. We receive guests there, play, relax, watch TV. In most cases, the living room serves as a dining room and study.
According to designers, in order to give a living room a new life, it is often not necessary to completely transform it. Sometimes it’s enough just to rearrange the furniture and put new pillows on the sofa.
- Think of the living room as an exhibition space
The living room, like any other room, needs a center, a starting point from where you begin to equip the interior. Look at the living room as an exhibition space, where the best picture should be in the spotlight. If your focal point is a TV or a fireplace, respectively, it should be perfectly visible from all corners of the room. By the same principle, you need to rearrange the furniture.
- Paint
Paint is one of the most effective ways to update a room, it doesn't matter if you paint one or all four walls - the transformation of the room will become visual. Use contrasting colors, or dark gray with white accents. If you don't want to completely paint the wall, then for the visual effect, paint only its bottom part and tops at the height of two or three spans.
- Pay attention to the floor
It is not necessary that any renovation of the floor be an expensive experience for you. If the floor is not damaged and does not require a thorough renovation, then you can use the carpet. Carpet replacement requires much less labor costs and is much more budget-friendly than floor replacement. Although, if your existing floor is damaged and needs to be replaced, check out our blog: “How to lay laminate flooring with your own hands”.
- Furniture - buy or restore
Not to mention an environmentally friendly solution, buying new furniture is more expensive than restoring it. Use a new fabric, paint the wood surface, or re-varnish it.
- Accessories
The easiest method to update a living room is to use accessories. Swap old pillows for new ones, pair them with curtains, or cover the sofa and chairs with a new throw. You can use this update method seasonally - change winter warm bedspreads for summer thin and cool sheets. Hang another picture on the wall, or change the carpet.
- Pay attention to lighting
We often forget that lighting is the most important thing in an interior. It creates a mood, gives a different effect to color and space. To not talk too much about lighting, see our blog: “The Importance of Lighting in Interior Design”.
